Despite the lavish exposure to breaking-points, start-overs and former bandmates, NY band Grassfight still features a tension and complexity that exhibits its music.

Grassfight has opened for popular bands like Starlight Mints, The Republic Tigers, Spinto Band, Frightened Rabbit, Mumiy Troll, TAB the Band, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Delta Mirror.

Having ensembled in early 2006, the threesome set to contest the settled collective. “Forster is as confident about Grassfight’s ultimate musical destination as he is candid about their orgins... its goals go beyond becoming local heroes.” [Dallas Observer]

With an amplifying history and sophistication, Grassfight is planning to present a new host of recordings early next year.

In live performance, the sound surrounds the audience in a breadth of character and stamina. “A real treat for those of us lucky enough to be in the room. Their songs are hypnotizing... conducive to creative adventures. Perfect for a nightime drive.” [The Sub Rosa]

Where Grassfight architects music for artisans, you will find just enough flattery to the past if you are seeking familiar love. It feels like black and white cinema. ”bass that broods of midnight... Hypnotic guitar lines are awash with shimmer... Reminds listeners of a classic soundtrack to dark night.”

blahblahblahscience- Blog Review

“All We Do Is Count” is new from NYC rock and roll band Grassfight. The track goes lo-fi well enough but mantains enough of a tune (both vocally and instrumentally) to keep you interested long after you’re first like “WOW, I really do love this low-fi shit.” Don’t sleep, “AWDIC” is one of the best rock tracks we’ve heard in a minute. Spin it after the jump below and check out the band’s “Icon” EP on Soundcloud.

Deli NYC Magazine Review

Grassfight might be the gazillionth indie band referencing Joy Division in their sound, but their songs are so good that we are definitely not going to complain about that. Besides, there are a lot of other elements here that make things interesting: this is compelling psych-goth rock that's dark enough to be credible, noisy enough to be truly edgy and punchy enough to be entertaining. As an added bonus, lead singer Nathan can pull off some seriously high tension cadences a la' Nick Cave - something that pushes the songs' climax to thundering heights (see EP opener "Never you Mind," streaming below). The guitar work in the EP is also pretty impressive, ranging from stabs of pure noise to fuzzy walls of sound, to simple acoustic parts to psychedelic, blurred background textures. If you like some sonic horror in your music, keep an ear out for these guys.

Anxiously awaiting our tracks' return from a stay in Montreal, where they were mixed and cared for by MixArt Studios for the last week. Excited to hear them again, with fresh ears.

There are a whole host of shows for September booked. Hope to see you at one or several of them soon!

Lovingly,

GF

We are back to the grindstone and diligently recording guitars. With the buzz of these songs at our backs, we are even more excited to get some future shows scheduled. There are some in the works, so do check back, and then, do attend.

We thank you for the outpouring of support we have received regarding our new location and first NY shows. We appreciate it and can't wait to spend more time with you out there.

This recording is going to be phenomenal. For those of you who bought French Schemes, you will recognize it as just a wink to our potential after hearing the new tracks. Excellence.

Keep in touch,

Best Regards,

GF

Greetings.

Grassfight would like to say hello and welcome you to their brand new blog.

A great deal of changes are manifesting right now and lots of plans will be coming to light as summer approaches, including the finished compilation of their recent recordings. It's been a journey but it is exciting the band and we think it will please you, too.

There are lots of ways to communicate with the band these days: ReverbNation, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, SonicBids, BandCamp... One might even find themselves on their mailing-list, should they choose. 2011 is looking up, ladies and gents, and Grassfight is looking forward to every minute of it.

Please check-in check-it-out often.

Best,
GF
